Orange Crush CR100 vs Fender Rumble 500

I have an 8x10 with an ashdown head for big stuff, I use the orange for small coffee shop kind of stuff and recording and the rumble when i have to just be loud and mobile

Thanks man. Those orange heads are so badass. That's my next investment. I forget what thy are called. In your opinion what bass do you prefer with the rumble. That may be a dumb question. I have an cheap epiphone eb3. (Two pickups non short scale model) but I am thinking of getting a p bass.

I play pretty simple groove riffs in my band. I like the feel of the p bass but I want recommendations

p bass is always good, but i would recommend you try a music man classic or the g&l's before you decide. there is some many good choices out there today but see if you can test-drive, personally prefer the classic stingray 5, its simply and sweet

there is some great epi's out there! , I am not sure how long you have been playing but to me strings are very important as well, you can change the voicing of the instrument with a proper setup and a different type of strings, i apologize if that was restating the obvious, but never know were people are at when you chat.

Honestly that's very helpful. I haven't been playing too long and I've only used a few different types of strings. Recommendations?

ernie ball have been my favs, I used to use ghs progressives but could not find them anymore. I spent a lot of time in the past getting the very best strings I could find but i had to strike a balance between getting great strings and being able to get them wherever I may be, the ernie balls are available just about any place you look and then sound great, i have noticed they hold up well also. I do change m strings more often than some but I just love that fresh sting tone. you will find them in the green pack, fat sound, even tone, good for rock, funk, punk, jazz, contemporary, just about any style, been my goto for a long time now.

rumble is fine, have one but if tone is your goal I have to vote for orange, it handles the low b better and is much warmer, if you just need a tool the rumble might work better for you, but I'm a tone junkie, I will take tone over going over one that goes to eleven.

I find the Rumble to be right on the edge of too warm. Any further and note definition would suffer (IMO). It's all about the tone you prefer. One persons warm tone is another's muddy tone. A person really needs to go play through them if possible. Make sure that you use your own instrument or a similar one (including the strings). That can make a pretty big difference.
