Orange obc 410 vs barefaced super compact

Hi everyone,

So fairly recently I acquired an Orange ad200b and it’s fantastic, it’s what I’ve always wanted and been thee bass amp I’ve sought after for ages, couldn’t be happier.
I run it with a barefaced super compact which is also a fantastic cab

I was just wondering how it would stack up against the orange 410 cab? Would the orange be worth the extra weight and back pains? It sure would look good!

It would look great but arguably not sound as good and as you said be heavier.

What it's WORTH is up to you only. It might sound fantastic, and, therefore, BE worth it.
I use my AD200B thru a Berg NV215 and HG410, which address both sealed cabs and its unreal. But I've also used it thru a Fender Bassman Pro Neo 115, and it's a different kind of superb.
You gotta try.....

I would trust the opinion of anyone that actually owns both.
subjective opinions can be what they are subjective and usually unconfirmed

As far as knowing what a generic neo 2x10 sounds like
and then adding more speakers and just running a 4x10

4x10 all the way, all day.
and yes even the aesthetics blend well
as a whole package with matching head

i dont find even "old school" 210s that heavy
and a so called light one isnt that light.

In a band situation with a med to loud drummer
4x10 is minimum anyways to carry a practice room
or a stage. with any situation that would have impressive SPL levels

My guess is, since I've played both cabs but never really compared them A/B, that the Orange is louder.
It is a lot bigger and weighs about a ton in comparison. The SC is an easy one hand carry, the 410 not so much.
You can't argue with the looks, however. A head on a matching cabinet always looks more right than another.

That's why I like my Tonehammer so much on my barefaced cabs. I've got the cloth grille version, so both cabs and head have a silver face and black sides.
And well, Orange amps and Orange cabs do offer that one thing that sets them apart ...

I've owned both for about 5 years now. If I could go back and do it over, I wouldn't have gotten the OBC410. I got a hernia during load out at the last gig I took it to. It's seriously a behemoth. They advertise the weight as being somewhere in the 90s, if I remember correctly, but mine is over 100lbs. While I don't have any issues with the way it sounds, it doesn't particularly stand out to me and it was very expensive. Overall, I'd vote no on buying it. However, I recommend trying one if you can. Maybe you will find it more to your liking than I did.

I own both of them, but I got them on a serious special.

I almost injured my back carrying the cab into my house (I actually did injure some lower back muscles, but not too serious). Since then, if there's help around I ask for a hand.
So in hindsight, if there was a different cab for sale that was lighter, I would've taken it.

Right now I'm on the lookout for a lighter one, so if I were in your position I would go for as light as possible.
I'm still super amped ( ) about the AD200B, but the cab will be replaced in due time.

As glad as one could be. I own a Super Compact and a Super Midget and that's it.
All my other cabs were sold.

You can make a Super Compact sound even better by either adding another Super Compact or a Super Midget.

I have a Big Twin 2 and a Super Compact but find myself using the SC much more often for convenience. It works great for me and I'm super-satisfied.

I think my suspicions were correct that the Orange would not be worth the back related problems. And good shout to add an extra SC. I imagine that would bring up the volume to that of the Orange 410.

Just had to replace a preamp valve for my Ad200, it was a bad v1. Only had a spare 5751 laying around but sounds nice and smooth now.

I just bought an Orange 4x10 last week. Yes, it's heavy but it's a beast of a cab. Sounds terrific. I am on the fence tho about whether to return it to save up for the Orange 8x10 instead. I keep reading mixed comments about the ported design vs sealed.

Other than the cool orange aesthetic factor, I cannot think of 1 good reason to buy that Orange cab...........but if you seek the Orange eye candy wow factor and are willing to carry an expensive bag of boat anchors in order to have it, then by all means have at it.

It uses thicker, heavier wood than is structurally necessary and offers no sonic, power handling or design advantages over 410 cabs that weigh less..... there are other 410s that cost more which are lighter and some that are also much better designed. If I wanted a 410 I'd be much more inclined to buy a Barefaced or Mesa or Genzler cab for more $$, or a GK for less. Don't get me wrong, the Orange will sound good, but it will be heavier and IMHO there are better boxes out there. Just my .02 The same can be said of their 115 boxes....but dang if they're not super sexy eye candy!
