Orange terror bass and 8x10 cab

I have seen several reviews where people seem to think the Terror Bass exceeds its 500W power rating. There are certainly more powerful amps out there though. Keep in mind that for a perceived difference in volume (3dB), you need to double the power. So to get noticeably more volume, you need at least 1000W.
If you need bone crushing volume, at some point your better off getting a second 810 and another amp. If you double the power to 1000W you get 3dB theoretically. Unfortunately you probably loose some of the gain to power compression, plus you increase the wear and tear on the cab because you are driving it really hard. If you get second 810 and another TB500 you get +6dB.
What other amps are you considering? Do you really need bone crushing volume?
More worried about the orange farting out. I need loud with decent tone. Not a rookie here, I just haven't had the opportunity to pair that setup.

I remember watching Agent Orange about three or four years ago, their bass player had that set up. Sounded fine to me.
The Bass Terror 500 is farkin' loud. Buy the 1st version. If you are worried, find a Bass Terror 1000 (like I did). I use it with a cabinet that needs a lot of power to get going, but let me tell you, when it does, it's so loud it will make you sweat! (stole that phrase from Bryan Beller)
I can highly recommend this little beast, it will bring a great sound to your band, especially if you get two 810s !!

Isn't the 810 4ohm? Which means you would need a second amp. The new Terror runs at a 4 ohm minimum.
I just bought the new Terror. I'm running through my 4ohm Peavey TX 410 for now. Loud as can be, honest reproduction of the bass in hand. I love it!
The newer version is supposed to be an upgrade while adding a clean switch, but also drops the watts down to 250 at 8 ohms.
Turn off the Clean Switch and the Pad and the newer version should be just as loud as the first. I believe @tombowlus tried or has both and said they put out the same amount of volume and can come close to 1000 watts.
I can't find the test online, but a British magazine has tested the Terror 500 and measured peaks exceeding 940 Watts. This thing is loud. An 810 cab most likely will take that kind of power.

Yes, my bad, I forgot that the 810s were 4 ohm & the Terror minimum is 4ohm.

When an amp is trying too hard to push an 810 it lets out a fart through one of the vents.
Bass Gear measured it over the 500w rating also. They are modest with their ratings.

My Ampeg PF50-T with its measly 50 Watts sounds awesome through an 810. I can make it louder until it starts compressing, which is the tube magic and in no way to be considered a fart.
My Aguilar Tone Hammer does not fart, either. It's just getting louder and louder until maxed.
I've seen people use tiny amps with big cabs. That Hotone one that fits in the palm of your hand and has only 5 watts on a full stack. The point is, most people will be amazed at how loud that is solo, but then be underwhelmed in band context. But in my humble experience, when you don't have enough wattage, you get drowned out by the others and that's it.
When you use a head that can put out a lot more than the cab can take, OTOH, you can make that cab do those dreaded farting noises - those that a cab does that will stop making any noise whatsoever pretty soon.
I've just never experienced a head that's too weak doing something that can be called farting out when it is connected to a cabinet that could take a lot more than the head can give.

No, what I'm saying is that at 4 ohms the Terror Bass puts out over 500 watts while at 8 ohms the amp puts out about 250 watts whereas the original TB500 ran 500 watts under both loads. The Clean switch only reduces the amount of gain you dial in to run a cleaner signal.

You're right. I always thought a farting amp utilises one of the 1/4" plugs on the rear to shoot out compressed air from the cooling circuit with such force that a farting noise can be heard - and since the Orange comes equipped with speakon plugs, that is not possible.
