has anyone ever even heard of orange wood, like from an orange tree. i never have and was reading a thread and i saw the word orange and was wondering if anyone had ever used or heard of it

I have a couple pen blanks Florida Orange. It looks like OO but it's more yellow than orange. smells great, too. Never seen anything big made out of it though.
yes put up some pics of orange wood! have not seen that before. if the trees are small, couldn't you till neck neck laminates out of it.

Osage Orange is another name for Bois d'Arc....or "bow wood"...used in the making of archery bows....
Sometimes, actually more often than not, referred to as "hedge"....and is full of thorns. Grows big green "hedge apples"....
Here in Kansas, is often used for fence posts on barbed wire fences. Hard and heavy. Back in my youth, riding fence out in the huge pastures of western Kansas, most of the fence posts were made of this stuff...no way to drive a fence staple into it once it has more than a few years on it.
It's difficult to find a large, clear chunk of it though. I suppose it would make a great fingerboard, but it's very hard on tooling...full of minerals and such. It is an "orange" color when matured.
