So the recent thread on extended range basses got me curious -- again. I pulled out the dusty Rondo fretless 6 string I bought a couple years ago and used it for a recording project last week. I really was able to get some sounds and fingerings I couldn't with a 4 string. But it is strung with flatwounds and I'm reluctant to put roundwounds on it, and besides, I'm still not completely comfortable with a fretless yet.
So I decided to stick my big toe a little deeper into the pond. The 6 string I'd gotten from Rondo had a few problems, but with a little work, it turned out pretty decent. I gave Kurt the benefit of my doubt, and ordered one of their SX SPB-62 4+1 basses. Cheap. It looks like a P-bass, but with two jazz pickups. I may want to replace the neck one with a split pickup, but we'll see. Does a standard Precision pick guard fit the Rondo P-bodies?
Oy! TB gave me gas again! Now I wait . . .
