Ordered a Kiesel bass

Well, I bit the bullet and ordered an Icon 5 from Kiesel. There was a lot of going back and forth of options i wanted. I ended up going with Claro Walnut top. I've read a lot of reviews and I find most are very happy with their Carvin/Kiesel.

I felt it was time, (age 52) to order myself a custom bass the way i wanted it. I'm pretty stoked and now the exercise in patience begins. I'm told 9-10 weeks to completion, so hopefully end of October or early November.

I will definitely post pics when it arrives!!

Ok,

Walnut body, maple neck with walnut stripes, Claro walnut top, figured walnut headstock, ebony neck (less variation), Block abalone markers, satin matte finish, abalone logo, black hardware, neck p/u switchable to single coil, metal knob topped with abalone (can you tell I'm an abalone fan?), engraved truss rod cover, hardshell case.

I just want a well built custom bass that looks high end and from what I've read Kiesel can give me that.

I'm considering a VB4
Good luck

I have a Carvin LB76w with a claro walnut top. Got it nine months ago and it still looks stunning to me. I leave two basses out on stands for easy access; a Spector Euro LX4 (my acvatar) and the Carvin LB76w. It truly looks better in real life than in any picture I've seen of it. And it plays as good as it looks. I have a feeling you're going to love it. Congrats!

My first Carvin, a TL60 guitar, was a present ordered by my wife, so I dont know how long it took to build. The second, a Bolt T guitar, took MUCH longer than the quoted time. I want to say maybe a month, due to paint issues, but was worth the wait. All my others were a kit, an in stock buy, and a used one from GC. I love their stuff, it really is my favorite. you will love it too I'm sure.

Its 10% of the bass's cost extra, it has to be paid all upfront, and it is non returnable. Not really worth it in my opinion.

Well of course it has to be paid up-front, it expedites the build. You also need to pay a deposit (or the entire amount) up front.
Unless they changed it, it was a flat fee, not 10%, I know I paid $100, it's been awhile so check the website or call.
for that info.

Whether its worth it or not entirely depends on whether you want to get the instrument sooner. It was worth it to me.

That's right off of Kiesel's website, and I meant the entire cost of the instrument plus the fee upfront.

They raised it, don't know when. My AC-40 build was several years back so there you go.
However, it isn't that drastic an increase, i'm certain that I paid a flat $100 for a bass that totaled about $1400 or so.

STILL worth it to me, it was then & would be now.

The cost increase doesn't bother me, making the bass non returnable does. that 10 day return policy is one of Kiesel's saving graces.
