Original P-bass pickup has busted magnet - best replacement?

Hey!

I have a-83 Fender P-bass where 1 magnet in one of the pickups has stopped working. When I bought it they had replaced the original set with a Wilkinson set. I am actually quiet happy with the way they sound, but playing with the idea to up-grade. My goal with the p-bass sound-wise is Mowtown style, The Meters funky soul old fashion type of sound. I play through an Ampeg SVT-450 and sometimes add a MarkBass superbooster.

So, not thinking of cost ... what is my best option in your opinion?

so it no longer has any pull, like you can't feel any magnet pull against a screwdriver or something?

Well ... I'm not an electronic guy --- but when tapping on it it is dead ... And you are right ... guess it is not the actual magnet but inside wiring or alike ...

Hello. Though I don't know what P pickup is the best option, not considering cost you could try one of the following four. Each sounds different from the other, but any of them should help you achieve your goal:

A wire probably came loose. Maybe take the pick guard off and snap a few pics. Disconnect could be an the pickup as well.

From a first listen I'd say the Curtis Novak PB-V ... or maybe it's just the fact that Byron House is a great player ... hehe

If your budget is under 100$, you can get a lot for your money from Seymour Duncan SPB-1. Nice price from Invalid Link Removed(I am not related in any way).

Yep, excellent vintage P pickups can be had from Duncan or fender for well under $100.

I got a set.. New, no problem.

For motown sound +1 on Seymour Duncan SPB1. Cheap but one of the best vintage sounding pickup with the Fender Original '60

Nordstrand NP4v. This is the vintage model. I stuck one into my mid-80's P as well, and I am beyond happy. That pickup is never leaving that bass while I am alive. It really nails that Motown sound with flats. I found out by accident that this is the P pickup that Sadowsky uses in his P and P/J basses. It's a really smooth sounding pickup.
