Oteil Burbridge always kills me!!

Oteil's been a huge influence on me for as long as I can remember. The dude is just so musical, and creative, and happy, and energetic, and funky, and just all around awesome. I just can't get enough of his playing. I literally love everything he's been involved in. I especially love when he plays the "traditional" bass player role. He brings all of that virtuoso ability to his lines and still manages to lay down some of the most tasteful stuff you'll ever hear. Here's a clip of his band, The Peacemakers, laying down some nasty stuff.

I've always loved Oteil as well. His whole vibe is just so positive and sincere and his playing is always just right for whatever role he is filling.

The thing about Otiel that gets me is how busy of a bass player he is but still perfectly gels into the mix. He plays so many notes and chords but if you are not paying attention you never really notice. I was right on the fence for this show and he just destroyed it. That Epifani rig he had sounded glorious.

Oteil used to be in a Beach bar band here doing '80s cover tunes. Very busy...but always grooving & happening. Was not the same around here when he left.

That Epifani rig he had sounded glorious.

...and he sounded glorius using a stock Fender Jazz with a G-K 800RB head with a 1x15 (homemade?) cab.

+1, I feel the same. He's always probing extending the chords out but never losing the groove. I miss him on the new Tedeschi Trucks album, but the album is still great.

Me too...he just does what's right for their music.

Just received the new cd this week, it's good (Pino plays on a couple tracks) but just not the same without his touch.

BTW, just saw him last night with the Allman Bros, great show! He was playing the Fender P with P/J pickups. Derek was on another level...
