Maybe follow the Soviet Socialist model. Look how well that worked...... I guess that's a bad example because anything taken to fanatical extremes will fail, democracy and capitalism included.

Australia is an interesting mix of socialism and capitalist democracy. Sure we have problems and no system is perfect, but I think it's not a bad balance.

The phrase "Cut off your nose to spite your face" comes to mind, to me.

FWIW, I'm shocked (and awed) that the conservatives on the board haven't gotten all frothy with anger that a "Hollywood type" dared to interfere with politics in the first place. I mean-- they stomp and stammer every time Babs opens her mouth, right?

And, I'm also a bit disheartened to see they haven't started up with the charges against the Talkbass Conservative Mod Conspiracy since this is a political thread in "Off Topic."

I guess I shouldn't be surprised by the inconsistencies, though. Adulterers screaming about adultery, drug addicts ranting about drug addicts, etc. Par for the course, really.

Tony Benn was/is socialist - unfortunately he never led a government - all the Labour goverments have been hampered in implementing socialist policies - by either small majorities or union pressure...ironically enough!!

The closer they approached socialism, the more they were hamstrung by union demands for higher pay in nationalised industries....

Ah, I see. On reflection, I suppose we were lucky to even have a socialist party in opposition. I'm not quite who's left and who's right (or wrong) with Nu-Labour... why cant they wear black and white hats like in old cowboy movies?

Oh Crikey, I'm appreciating political irony... I didnt see that coming :eek:

Well we already have Glenda Jackson in the Labour party and Seb Coe in the Conservatives..... :hmm:

I suppos ethe only difference from the US is that both of those were recognised as being good at what they did before.

So - Glenda Jackson's critical reviews for her acting, would stand up pretty well alongside Arnie's...;)

You are kidding right?

Arnie, like him or not, was Mr Universe for many years, he was a self made millionaire from real estate investments and stuff like that before he became one of the most famous movie stars (nb, not actor) in history.

Not only is he good at everything he's done, but he's been THE best body builder in the world and arguabley the worlds biggest action film star in the last 20 years. Plus he educated himself to degree level, whilst being Mr Universe amoung other things!

Personally I think he's very driven and to-date successful person, why shouldn't he be as good a politician?

HA! LOL! I must've blocked that out!

Still, Jenny Agutter is the undisputed queen of unexpected, yet refreshing nudity in otherwise boring movies.

Shame about Logan's Run - a fantastic movie that could have been so much better! ;)
