Double Bass Out with the old, in with the new

Ok, so the Behringer Ultrabass is being retire(gutted) and I just bought this new Hartke KB12 will replace it..the KB is 28lbs. New speaker design..I have a Delta Pro to go into the Behringer cab, haven’t decided on an amp yet, maybe An AI Clarus or Aguilar tonehamer 500 or 800....let the discussion begin.,!

You can get a used Clarus head pretty cheap. I have been really happy about moving away from combo amps, though I have taken my GK 200MB out a few times since getting my Clarus. I doubt I will ever get rid of it.

Lightness and portability are my deciding factors, I set up and tear down nearly every night..building a combo with bass head in mind intrigued me..

An AI head + the upshot is about as light and portable as it gets! Another small cab is a way to go. Also, not much is lighter than just bringing the head when you know there is a house cab!

I own a Berhringer 1200. Used it for a bunch of jobs, but the weight and lackluster tone have relegated it to practice duty.
Pretty handy amp though. I’m also intrigued by the swap concept. Maybe a cheap class D and jettison the god-awful aluminum speaker.

I bought a eminence Delta Pro 375W 12 thinking of putting that in or I also picked up a celestion 12 200W..Everything on the Ultrabass is screwed in so replacing should not be a problem just add an AI Clarus, or Aguilar tonehamer Ect Ect. And there you go the only thing you don’t replace is the Behringer nameplate.

Considering the fact that I'm using the Radial Bassbone V2 as my preamp, I really only need a one channel amp..with maybe a voicing scoop..and it's gotta be at least 700-800 Watts
So boyz, which one? Mesa Subway-D800 or Aguilar AG700?

I’m shoving a AI Clarus SL one channel amp up top 600 Watts should pair up nicely with the Eminience Delta Pro 12”,..we’ll see how it sounds with my 60’s Roth German UR..

It’s the “collector” in me..I have a 2 channel Radial Bassbone V2 pre which is ideal for going upright (w/ a variable pz blend) to my Player series J bass...

Ok I have been using this new version of the Hartke KB12 Kichback combo for about a month now..along with a simple pedal board of tuner, Radial Bassbone V2 pre, a Boss looper, chorus, and en Eventide Mixing Link..., ..I gotta say for the restaurant, club, and outdoor venues, this amp has been great and plenty loud enough, it's 500 watts get the job done. I bought it from Sweetwater for a great price, thanks ANDREW.
Since purchasing the Hartke, I have been shopping the class D amps, from $600 to 900 price range and that's just for the head not including a cab. All are 600 to 800 watts some one channel, some two. For all of my gigs, theyre just one spilled beer away from being destroyed electronics..

so my question is this, is it wise to bring out your $1200 to $2000 rig when a $400 combo can do the trick.. last night the wedding party was so loud, me and the piano player could hardly hear each other.. and the Hartke was plenty loud enough, I just needed to turn down the crowd.....

If you’re getting what you want with the Hartke and your pickup, then it’s all good. With my bass, pickup, and preamp the Hartke is the worst possible option. Different basses and pickups will sometimes work with amps that are primarily designed for electric bass. The Fender rumble works with my other gear.
