Oval profile flatwound strings?

Hi folks,

New member here, looking for advice.

When I was a teenager, I owned a cheap fretless jazz-bass copy. It was pretty crap TBH, and in the end I lent it to a friend and never saw it again.

There's something bugging me though. IIRC, it had smooth strings which were not only flat wound, but were also oval in profile. They were silver coloured, so not nylon wrapped. I just remember the strings being really smooth and mellow to play, so I thought I'd look into it some more.

The thing is, I can only find round strings for sale now, so I'm starting to think I dreamed the whole oval profile thing. Did I, or are these still available somewhere?

Thanks!
Funny enough, a guitarist friend of mine has had this same hallucination. He swears he’s played a bass with oval shaped strings before. I’ve never heard of such a thing, and I don’t see how it would work if it was.
