Overdone cosmetics?

Not overdone at all. It actually is quite straight forward.

One thing though, doesn't the lid rattle when you use the cab?
We shall see. The hope is that it will compress against foam padding in the interior, and be rattle resistant, but it's fully detachable so if necessary just be removed... I considered than abandoned the idea of a hinged lid for that very reason.

I love it. I've always hated that amps and a lot of stage gear is always black.

Music should be colorful.

And I always wanted something that looks like your cabinet or those custom shop Mesas for a home amp. Black boxes add so much warmth . . . .
Mojotone offers cab cover material in a variety of colors/textures…

I'm working up a new 1x10 cab for front room folk dance band rehearsals with acoustic instruments. Hopefully it should be the same internal volume and port resonance as the one it's replacing, but a good bit lighter and with storage for micro amp and cables (hence lid) so it's a one hand carry. It was going to be ultralight, but I got a bit carried away with trim and aesthetics. The mate who I bounce at lot of this stuff off thinks it's overdone. Opinions?

Incidentally the grill is an 18inch bugeye cut down and edges bent to square. This was over a third of the cost of any other option I could live with. Weird!
Looks great, and thankfully not very rock 'n roll at all, IMO. I've thought about doing something similar for the little combo I use for mostly acoustic jam formats, but my weather windows for woodworking tend to be short and unpredictable, and since I have friends who are much better at that work I'll probably just need to come up with the right trade bait. ;)

Looks really special and I say you do you, let other be boring with their understated black amps.

Some of the wood is 100 plus year old mahogany from a piano someone local had scrapped
That's a great idea -- I have salvaged wood from old furniture, but I hadn't thought about piano cases. Sometimes those can be had for the effort of hauling off the piano, and the wood is often top grade. I don't know why I hadn't thought of it -- except I do tend to turn and run every time I see someone trying to dispose of an upright piano.
