overdrive/fuzz quest part 2

Love the history of all the names.

Really starting to like the sound of green Russian muffs. Trying it figure if I want to try the Abominable or go with the Wren and Cuff.

Im the same way. I seriously disliked muff fuzz for years. I had a EHX black russian and a silver a red box years ago and that was my first exposure to them. I played them with a stock Squier into a little Crate practice amp. I think back and that is maybe why I really didn't dig them then. Fast forward 12 years and I picked up an EHX black russian in a trade. I ended up falling in love with the muff ;) Its funny because I wasn't a big fuzz fan all these years and I started trying to get into them again the last couple years. I got a TFR over a year ago and didn't like it really. But since then, like I said, I've really enjoyed muff/green muff fuzz lately and I really want to try the TFR again. My goal is to get a couple old green muffs eventually when finances permit. BUt in the meantime, Id like to get my hands on a TFR, see if I can mix with it this time. The Abominable stuff looks pretty neat too. I think, me, I would grab a TFR first though.....

my close friend Rusty Anderson wanted a device that would make his buffered wireless system play nice with his germanium fuzztones so I just finished building him this.
there's no bypass in this one since it's going to be in a relayed effects looper in his rack. the top toggle switches between single coil and humbucker loads.

Does it work well? I might need something similar to set up a fuzz factory in a buffered relay bypass loop.

John, you probably more than most if not all, have listened to with a critical ear, most if not all the OD/Distortion/Fuzz pedals that get bandied about on TB. Have you every done or considered doing a top-10 list? I for one would love to learn what you think. (However, I want to acknowledge you've never been shy about saying what you think in the context of your posts... eg the Barbershop or the B3K/VMT.)

I know that I have previously posted a top ten OD list but it may have change since I posted it.

what comes to mind right now some of the top ones are:
OD's:
Fairfield Barbershop
Cornish SS2-B
Cochrane Timmy
Wampler Euphoria
Catalinbread WIIO
Creation Audio Labs Holy Fire

i'll try to post my favorite Distortions and Fuzzes later when I have more time.

best,

john

Yeah the Euphoria/Ecstacy is pretty good.

Johnk,
I bought a handful of different ones for my Ecstacy and Timmy (as they both have sockets fitted as per standard), and it's been fun changing them around and experimenting.
I've had a few I really like, and a few not so much.
Have you ever tried different Op-amp's in either the Ecstacy/Euphoria or the Timmy?

I haven't since I love them the way that they are.

But the abominable deluxe has a green circuit option :)

I'm also curious about the Aguilar Fuzzistor, which isn't even out yet.
I picked up a HS DLX off of Reverb a few weeks ago. Definitely no loss of lows. If anything they are almost too much. The mid control changes the tone in a very subtle way, and the blend is also pretty subtle until you have it around 1 o'clock. I'm having a little trouble finding out how to use it. The Muff tone is so super scooped when compared to a TAFM or DA Wizard Fuzz that it is hard to end up with something that isn't just high sizzle or wooly, inarticulate boom. If I roll the pup pan all the way to the bridge on my Lakland 44-02, crank the highs and dump the lows I get something that is close to usable. I haven't used it in a band setting yet.
