Overrated bass players

I dont know how anyone can say that Victor Wooten is overrated, he's an awesome bass player, one of the guys who's transformed slap bass and took it to the next level. Theres obviously more elements to playing bass than just slap, but to for someone to completely set a new standard and bring out new bass techniques, i dont know how they could be considered overrated

I came across an old Bass Player mag from like year 2000, and Sam Rivers of Limp Bizkit was on the cover. Anyone thought he was overrated? Limp Bizkit was nothing to write home about, and neither was his bass playing.

Underrated, if anything. Apart from "Take a look around", have you heard any of their songs? He's very creative in my eyes.
And you're saying he's overrated because he appears on one bassmag cover? Don't be ridiculous. When was the last time someone gave him credit here on TB?

Hi,
O.K. I'm gonna put my tin helmet on and sit six feet back from my P.C......................Paul McCartney!

Took some guts to be the first to put that forth!!!

While the Beatles were my generation and a HUGE impact on me as a band, I can't say that I ever looked to Sir Paul for bassmanship inpiration.

But to give him some credit, he was more solid when they were doing early live sets like in Germany.

When I think of Paul, I think of the Beatles, I think of music craftsmanship and innovation, when I think of bass I think of "PUNK MEETS THE GODFATHER" or "TALES OF BRAVE ULYSSES" (live)

It would be nice if anyone had anything concrete to say. But alas, what can I expect. I guess I'm the only one that realizes that "good" isn't something that is set in stone, so there is no way of knowing whether or not a player is as "good" as people say. I guess the "best" player is the person who the most people like if you think about it that way. Which would mean basically all the people on this thread are the best, because generally, they are the most popular.

Except Fieldy, he's not actually overrated, because no one likes him cause he sucks.
