overrated gear

Well, like many, I try to duck anything that smells like marketing strategy and get something of VALUE.

When choosing an amp to go with my upright electric piezo, I compared an Ampeg against an Orange (mind you - a Korea made Orange) and the Orange won! I paid much less for it and am happy to see that it works fine with my fretless and my Jazz Bass as well.

So, does this mean that Ampeg is overrated? I think not. It is just that I am a smart buyer, perhaps.

My Ampeg amps and Fender basses think you're overrated too, but you don't see them starting threads about you.

Yes, I know it's a zombie thread. Don't care.

How did you arrive at your assessment of value? Did you analyze cost of production including labor, benefits, insurance, rent/mortgage, shrink, machinery, transport and other overhead?

Anyway, if they sell them all, they're worth what they're charging.

Nope, my assessment of value is based on the most I would personally pay for one. If their cost to build them is high, that is their problem. They are not worth what they ask for them. Simple as that to me. There is nothing spectacular about them to command a $1000+ price point. I cannot justify paying for a name. :/
