Overwater basses

i have a pair of six strings one fretted and the other fretted and they are worth the cash, and it has already been said they are right up there with Sei basses.

I've played a couple at work, two fretted five strings, but they didn't really blow me away like I thought they would have.

but in others no, as far as i have seen and played so far i think that a sei will be more versatile (cos overwater eq theirs to be quite flat) and prob a bit more confortable to play but i do really think that overwaters are better constructed basses.
but i am going to order a sei very soon so i have really just put my foot in my mouth havnt i.
i do really want a headless bass with a 34" and a really versatile pre so that was sort of the deciding factor.
really they are both great.

I've got an Overwater 5 string Jazz which I've had for three years now. I must admit, I bought mine not having played one before so it was a pretty big gamble which eventually paid off.
I would agree they're not cheap, but you're getting an excellent bass guitar for the money. Chris & Laurence did a great job in building it and were perfect hosts when I made the trip up to Carlisle (300+ miles from where I was living at the time) to collect it.
I've gigged it a good few times now and the guys in the band have been very complimentary about it. In my humble opinion, it sounds like a Jazz with a bit more depth to it. I had an 80's Fender Jazz years ago & wasn't that impressed with it, but with having now played bass for 20+ years I now know that it's possible to buy "a Lemon" occasionally. I still think there are a lot of great Fender Jazzes out there....I just wanted something different.
What about one of the Sadowsky Metro models? I've read a lot of good reports in both Bass Player & BGM about them being great qualty Jazzes for the money.

I do think that Overwater's are too expensive though. I saw one on a shop wall today. 5 string, bolt-on fretless for over £2000.
I've got to say though that when I came to placing an order for my custom bass, I knew exactly where I was going to go. I've been a huge fan of Sei's for years and, even though, I've been to Carlisle and met Chris, I didn't feel that an Overwater was 'for me'.
Both Sei's and Overwater's are great basses and a customer of either company will have an instrument of which to be rightly proud

i wasnt talking a big difference and it was probably only on the perticular basses that i played, cos to be honest i have seen some amazing seis on talkbass that probably out do most of the overwaters i have seen.
but i was talking up close and in person, anyway i will be ordering a sei six very soon i hope, and for the very reason that you would have to go very far to top Martins work.

Hmmm well I've not played a Sei so won't comment but I have played some GB's, Shuckers and Overwaters and to me the Overwater basses are way better than those, the low B on an Overwater is amazing it stomps all over my Pedulla Rapture its just amazing.
Personally I don't think Overwater is overpriced, yes they are expensive but still cheaper than both GB and Sei's and its difficult for americans as the basses end up costing a hell of alot due to the exchange rate similar to celinders as such.
When I finally get enough money together for a fretless it will be an overwater, I played a 35inch scale unlined fretless of there's and I've never heard tone like it.
My final words on the subject will be if it's good enough for Mo Foster it's good enough for me

What this thread shows is that British bass builders are among the very best out there and we don't have to go abroad to have our instrument dreams realised !!
