Overwater basses

i've played fenders most of my 'career', but tried an overwater for the first time a couple of days ago. very impressed, looked great, sounded very good, LIGHT, hardware was spot on. Only thing is they wouldn't really fit in with a rock band image. I know image isn't everything, but it would look very out of place.

What this thread shows is that British bass builders are among the very best out there and we don't have to go abroad to have our instrument dreams realised !!

Do overwater basses make custom orders to individual customers? What kind of options are offered on these? How much to they cost, just starting price?

Ah - one of my favorite TalkBass topics! Glad to see it getting more than 2 or 3 posts!

Over here in the states, these are apparently pretty rare sights. Ross Hamilton from Wolfstone played one of these (before he switched to lead guitar) which was simply stunning. It's what started me on my quest for a quality instrument. If you think 2000 BPS is too much, think of the exchange rate over here!

These are at the top of my list if the proverbial ship ever comes in, though.

Most of the Overwaters I've played were extremely heavy (bodies about 2 inches thick!) and had a very dark tone to them that I didn't really enjoy. The low B wasn't bad in terms of balance with the other strings, and it felt nice and tight, but the overall tone was so dark that it just didn't have any clarity, and the EQ didn't seem to help.

Well made, for sure, and the necks were comfortable, but not for me. Just a matter of taste though.

I play a much more elaborate-looking bass than an Overwater in my rock band, and it's not a problem, in fact it looks fantastic (see my avatar)... I say, make your own image!
