Overwhelmed...

Just kind of wondering... Not meaning to sound like some sort of Butt Smoochen noob or anything, BUT!..


Have you in your musical career, ever been playing some of the music that you have made, and in the headphones, or via the massive power your rig is pushing at your back, and the monitors are throwing back at you... Felt any sort of blissful blanket of musical awesome fall over you?


Some of the textures that you have layered into things, and playing with some of the groups you have played with must make for some pretty amazing aura.


How do you feel your own music? Being that it is special to the Fans, after the work you put into it, does it often still do "it" for you. Or are you one of those "Step away from it" guys once you are done with a project.


Sorry, Big heavy question, but one doesn't often get the opportunity to get things answered by an idol very often these days, and you are legitimately one of my favourite bassists... And a pretty down to earth person... Soo... Thoughts on how you feel about your music?

Nor do I most of the time... But every once in a while, if you are looking out in the audience, and they are feeling it, and the other musicians are feeling it. The groove sets in, and it can hit you like a ton of bricks, bricks of clarity, and purity. Groove Bliss.

Thank you, firstly! At your service, grateful to be where I'm at.

Yes, that feeling of the pure expression of art/bliss/transcendence et al is undeniable when it happens, and I have been lucky for it to have happened on many occasions. Playing other people's music or my own, I don't care...even when it's someone else's, I can often become completely enraptured, as if I own their music as much as they do. Which is a nice feeling. Anyway, that incredible power is exactly why I do this. And it's even better when it is shared by both the performer and the receiver. Interestingly, I find that sometimes the feeling depends far more upon the receiver than the performer, so much so that they in fact become the de facto performer.
