P-bass construction pics - and yet another ask.

Hi all,

Messing with cameras and basses again. i've got some SR4 pickguards around so gives a better idea.

You can see the routes around the pickup are fairly large so I'm going to have to go with a pickguard methinks.

I've photoshopped the exposures to look about the same. It was tougher to take the pic with the white pickguard as there's a big exposure difference there.

So which do you like best? Black Hardware.

I'd choose black myself. That is fantastic body and finish by the way. Really beautiful.

I'm not a fan of black pickguards, but in this case the blueburst gets more attention with the black one.

I picked the abalone since it blends in the best. I am not big on the black, but I seem to be in the minority. I also would have gone with chrome hardware, not black.

The black would go better with a rosewood neck.

you can't go wrong with any of the choices, but IMO black looks the best.

None, with the bezel, the pickup rout looks ok to me as is, 4 feet away, and it'll turn invisible too. Just need to sort that control cavity.

i think black takes away some of the fanciness of that finish. the pearl white looks much better imo. black almost looks cheap to me.

I did the abalone with my SR5 that is a VERY similar blue burst and liked the black better after the fact. I'm too cheap to pick up another black guard... and the orig is busted up a bit.

+1 Looking back, I think that is what bothered me about the black.... it looks cheap next to the finish. If you really want black, maybe a black pearl?

I'm sure leaning that way, and thought years ago about doing a blueburst FMT mighty mite P up with a black pearl guard. I don't remember whether Nino was the inspiration but it's a good look IMO.

Huuuuge +1 for black pearl. that finish just doesn't work with a solid color.
