What do you think of the blue swirl?

No swirl. Regardless of the color, the swirls don't work for me with the visible grain of the body. Kinda like checked shirts and striped pants - too much movement.

I liked the solid black.

+1 ... The body is nice by itself. You don't want the pickguard to detract from the instrument. And the swirl ... wow ... too much focus might make audience members ill.
