I am looking to swap a pickup out of a MIM Fender P bass Deluxe (active 3 band P/J pickups) in order to increase sound quality/clarity. I really like the sound of the bass, but notice a lot of differences in clarity between that guitar's pickup and my Passive American P. I don't really want the sound to become "glassy" or "glossy" like a lot of the funk oriented active basses sound (not that I don't like it, it just wouldn't fit in the project I use the bass for). I would like to stick to a sound that fits well in a rock-like environment, but also helps me cut through the mix; that part is pertinent! So what would all you P bass deluxe users say is the best swap for this?
