Definitely a P. I have tried many times to bond with a 'Ray and it has never happened for me. A P is so good in the studio.

The P bass is the quintessential bass for any occasion or style of music. I've got five basses and three of them are P basses. However when I build one coming up I am going towards L1000 territory. Just to be different.
Also a big passive fan. I have one five string active, but mostly just play the P's.

I agree. Can I get by on what I "Need to", maybe. WANT to, hardly. I remember fondly when a four string Stingray was my #1, and I actually expect to re-visit that someday. P as #1 has happened numerous times. I've just recently gone back to a five with a passive Jazz as #1.

I'm currently playing 2 basses at every gig, a passive PJ and a Ray.
A regular P is a long way down the list of my favorite basses, but if I could choose only one, that would be it.

It's funny you say you would take the Stingray because of the EQ because that's why I would avoid it. I hope to never have a bass with onboard EQ again, it's just too much for me to deal with.

A passive P bass- I prefer a bass without batteries that will die in it.

Hundreds of gigs, never have I ever had a battery in my EBMM die on me. It's a myth. Change the battery every year or two...it's really not that difficult.

I play an EBMM sterling, P, and J. J is a distant 3rd for me. Sterling is always my go-to but the P has its moments, of course.
