Hi
I am thinking of putting together a passive P bass out of decent woods etc.... (EG; Warmoth), but have thought about placing the two halfs of a standard P bass split pick up, "reversed and further apart"....
Why?
Just a theory.... I like to have a mellower tone the higher up the bass I play (D & G strings - pick up closer to the neck) and going down to a more "meaty" lower end (E & A strings - pick up closer to the bridge)
I was thinking of placing the two halfs around 6" (15cm) apart.
I don't really want a 2pu config and really like the P bass tone (apart from the thinner sounding D & G stings)
Any thoughts anyone.... about whether it would work.... or has someone already done it??
Cheers
Geoff
