P Bass Pickups

My vocalist has an old p-bass that needs a neck, tuning hardware, bridge, but most importantly new pickups (I'm getting it for free). I love the passive single coil fender sound but I'm open to an aftermarket suggestion. I've always been a j-bass guy so the p-bass is new to me. Definitely do not want active pups. I have 100% free reign over this instrument and I would like to make it sound as good as possible while keeping it defined from my j-bass. My real question would be what has sounded good for others that may be an option for me. I play in a post-hardcore band, I really don't need super low muddy tone or a super bright high tone.

Thoughts?

Fender Classic 62 Precision pickup... the best I've used.

Since you mention you like the single coil Fender sound, is this P routed for a standard split P or a single coil P?

I actually preferred S-D's SPB-1, but they're both great pups that are very reasonably priced...
