had this problem with a new set of Duncan Quarter Pounders.. .. I called tech and we determined the magnets were installed upside down..., swapped them for a new set and not a single bit of noise at all..

Note how he said that "buzz" went away when he touched the strings. That is evidence of a shielding issue. In your case you had "single coil hum" because the humbuckers weren't bucking hum! I'll bet your hum did NOT go away when you touched the strings.

I'm not an electrical guru, but I think you're right nonetheless. Seems quite obviously to be a grounding issue and I don't see how shielding is going to resolve OP's problem. But, nobody else seems to agree...

After wringing some education out of another thread (and sorting through the usual collection of folklore), I'll have to retract this statement. Shield away.
