P Bass still has buzz after shielding it

Also, reflow your connections to the pots just in case you have any loose or cold joints.

I agree with all the advice to investigate grounding. If you have a floating ground, a ground loop, or the shielding is not terminated properly, those could all allow unwanted noise voltage into the signal, IIRC.

this discussion makes me want to open up my P-bass (practically identical to the one in my avatar) to see how it's set up.

All of this is somewhat strange to me. Of all the basses I have I believe i only have one that has shielded cavities, pickguard, pickup pockets, etc. I get zero noise from any of them and that's 15 basses, some of which I built.

That’s why I kind of wonder if I might just have a bad tone pot. I’ve never had this problem either.

I didn’t ground the shielding. I was under the impression the shielding adhesive did that. But I’m clueless. Thanks for the video recommendation.

The tape simply attracts all the noise away from the electronics. If you ground it, the noise disappears. If you don't ground it, you just added a huge antenna for noise.
