P Bass - stripped finish?

Any guesses why the side of this bass has white discoloration? Stripped finish but they left some white?

I know there are many road worn basses out there nowadays so could this one be a desert worn ? Rather nice anyway IMO.

I am refinishing an old p bass body actually and to my surprise, there is a thick and though urethane finish under the primer and paint that were made at the factory. Just like if Fender would have shipped some American finished natural bodies to Asia to have them re-painted and sold as a Squier. How do I know ? The body is a 2 pieces alder usually used on high end basses. Weird……..

That's the finish which was clear at one time. It's separated from the wood and the whitening is a result. Happens with nitro sprayed incorrectly.

You can see the same 'whitening' at te edges of this thick nitro finish being removed - the result of insufficient bonding.
