I think it is some kind of "rut" - Fender has strats of all colors with either black OR white/cream pickup covers, but there's like a conspiracy to keep all the bass pickups black :spit: :hmm: :smug:

I just got a sunburst fretless P-bass (SX) and I already have the cream pickup covers and a pearloid pickguard is coming. I am also trying to decide on knobs (don't really care for metal domes). I am not really against black pickups, they work on some colors, but I want something "different".

Has anybody changed theirs? Let's see those pics :hyper:

P.S. FWIW I also think that "anemic white" pickguards are ugly on any color of fender-style instrument, yes even on white and especially on cream. MAYBE on black... nah, still ugly. :hiding: (take this with a grain of salt, will ya?)

Fender and Dimarzio both made a lot of creme colored pickup covers in the early 1980's and a lot of them found their way onto Precision, Jazz and P/J basses. In fact, almost all of the 1982-83 Fender basses I have seen recently (with the exception of the Fullerton reissues) have either creme or white pickup covers. Come on folks. Lets see 'em.

This is a 2020 Squier 60s CV I bought a few week's ago. I ordered Lindy Fralin cream covers and they were a little tight but all I did was loosen the strings and with patience and a little pressure in the right area they went in. I didn't remove the pickguard. Easier going in than I imagined it would be.

Cream pickup covers that actually fit in a Fender are as rare as hens teeth these days. I had to special order from Lollar and the only reason they agreed to sell me just the covers was because I was a previous customer. At the time, Lindy had none in stock. I went through several aftermarket suppliers, none of which fit, before biting the bullet and splurging (all of like $12 lol) for the Lollar ones. This was a few years ago, so maybe there are more choices available but it always struck me as odd that the ones that were available mostly were not drop in for Fender basses.

That's what the Lindy's cost me. Around 12 bucks
