I have a passive p/j. The controls are vol/vol/tone. I replaced the p pup, decided I didn't like it, so I put the original back in. Only now, the p pup only work when the tone knob is fully turned in one direction. So if i solo the p pup I have no sound, until I move the tone knob all the way in one direction. And even then it sounds terrible. What did I bump?
