P pickups

Just interested in peoples opinions regarding the various replacements on offer today as there seems to be quite a large range. What do you think is the best one for a low end dub type sound? Are the vintage ones still the best?

get some 1/4 pounders and some flat wounds.

the 1/4 pounders bring out the "boom" low end you need for dub/reggae style bass.

seymour duncan spb-3's
the pickup tonal range is bigger than regular p/ups, it brings out the highs and lows
just roll off the highs.

this is how my bass is setup.

I agree with the post above about the flats. I also agree with him about the spb-3's. Personally I'd sacrifice some of the spb-3's lows and get the more versatile, but still plenty dub-a-rific, spb-1. The spb-3 is more specialized and I prefer the tone of the spb-1. I can get more low end by moving the plucking hand toward the neck and adjusting the pickups closer to the strings.

If you are exclusively concerned with dub, spb-3. If you are also concerned with other styles, the spb-1 may be a better choice for you. It is for me.
