Buy the new one and keep the stock pickups

The salesman is offering you a discount on pickups you haven't tried on a bass you haven't lived with for a while.
In almost every case where I've changed pickups, the tone increase has been very slight, in the scheme of things, and almost always achievable in another way - gain, EQ etc

How do you know the stock ones will be bad?

Sometimes I changed the pickups from new on basses I ended up NOT keeping - what a waste!

Buy the new one, play it for a while, see how you get on. You'll get more benefit from putting the 140 off a better amp

I would take option 2. It's a new bass, upgraded with good noiseless pickups, you know a lot more about the condition of what you're getting. Worth the extra money IMHO.

As for option 1, I wouldn't even give it a second look. Used, mismatched pickups, replaced fretboard (straight red card), and you can't try before you buy. Not worth the risk.

Go for the new one. Its better to get something you have experience with and is decent, than something else which could be much worse.

I also recommend bass number 2, number 1 can be great but if you can't compare them IRL it's safer to go with a new and unaltered bass. About those Bartolinis or other high-end pickups, if you have friends in Bulgaria or other EU-country you can ask if they can help. Thomann and Banzaimusic sell Bart-pickups and electronics, Delano and Häussel can be bought from Bassparts.de. I guess all of them sell outside EU as well but I don't know about taxes, etc. in Serbia. And you can always ask them via email, they are known to respond quickly.

the thing with the option 2 discount is that I get a discount only if I buy both the pickups and the bass.. And I heard how that bass sounds with those new pickups, the difference is huge

But I will again take your advice, gonna go for the bass only and then later figure out which pickups to put on it.

Bass on the way, pics will be uploaded by the end of the week, ordered a pair of standard Jazz pickups and getting a new passive pre (it has VVT and I am going for VBT with series switch).. so rawr!
