P that is not P.. Squier dilemma here.

Which bass?

to cut the story short, I have two options, same model bass, Squier Standard P Bass Special V.

OPTION 1:
used since 03, one SD Jazz pickup in the neck position, stock fretboard replaced with a maple one, Fender frets on it, decent shape, Antique burst, 200 euros, can't try before buy (respectable salesman, everything is working okay)

OPTION 2:
new, regular everything, Wine satin finish, tried it, decent piece, 260 euros.. but I get a discount if I get Fender ModShop Samarium cobalt noiseless pups, it all comes under 400 euros.

Which you think is a better option?

Why can't you try option 1?
Between the two, I don't know which I'd do. The replaced fretboard would bother me a bit. Otherwise I think I'd have to play both to see really. I wouldn't focus so much on swapping the pickups right away in the 2nd one. Try it stock first.

The dude selling the option 1 bass is real far away from me, he wouldn't send it for me to try it and it's way too much trouble for me to travel there.. and yeah, the fretboard is bothering me the most too.
Tried the second one stock, sounded a bit meh but okay, usable.. then I heard my friend's bass (same model, those pups) and it blew me away. The new pickups are not a must have but I would like to get them.

Oh, gotcha. Hate it when that happens. Can you play your friend's bass to see how much you like it (i.e. through your amp, with your band if possible etc.)? If so, I'd advise doing that. Otherwise, if it were me, in your shoes, dead set on 1 or 2, I'd go with 2. But that's me, and it's easy for me to spend your money.

Yep, I am bringing my bass tomorrow along with my amp head to try and compare his bass to mine, gonna test it head to toe to be sure it fits me.. I am pretty sure that model fits me but basses differ piece to piece.
Yeah, I am inclined towards 2 but literally everyone told me number 1 is a better option so I am kinda confused :/

I have one. It's a pretty great bass. I want to swap the pickups out soon. I love the neck. Really good bass for the money.

How does he have one new? They haven't made these since like 2004 (?)

Just to answer your question. About the P not being a P. I have looked at these before. The body is the thinner P shape so they say. Just an FYI on the Squier. You can land a plane on the neck. The nut is 2". It is really a great bass for the $$$.
Bartolini NBMT & Pickups and it would sound amazing.

The only thing I am confused about is the poll results ("used" option winning) but meh.

I have just tried my buddy's bass (same model) and two basses at the store (the Wine satin I already tried and a black one).. only the black one was a lemon, the other ones are great pieces. I think I will go with option 2 after all.

I would take option 2. It's a new bass, upgraded with good noiseless pickups, you know a lot more about the condition of what you're getting. Worth the extra money IMHO.

As for option 1, I wouldn't even give it a second look. Used, mismatched pickups, replaced fretboard (straight red card), and you can't try before you buy. Not worth the risk.
