OK, let’s solve this thing democratically. Also, I included the string thing because I can’t just focus on one thing. Check all that apply, like which do you use, etc.

This is a topic that will never be "solved" - democratically or otherwise. At the current time, I have a bass that has one neck pickup, but it isn't a P, I have a thing that looks kinda like a J, but the way the pickups are combined, it doesn't sound like one, and a couple other basses with non-Fenderish pickup configurations.

I have, through a lot of experimentation, concluded that, while Leo did a lot of things right (a 34 inch scale works fine), neither P or a J is optimal for me. I will, however, come down decisively on the side of rounds for everything - one more detail where I disagree with Leo.

To those for whom the shoe fits:

What the flip? Do you people have no imagination at all? You talk and act as if the entire bass world consists of Ps and Js. I don't want to live in that boring world. If I was faced with the choice of playing only Ps and Js, or playing anything but Ps and Js, I'd take all my FSOs to the band saw and make pieces of firewood out of them. Or make some suppositories for those of you who need them.

Get off my lawn!

This is an A post. I'm subtracting half a mark because you could have said "What the funk"
