Death metal music with black metal lyrics. To elucidate: the technical brutality of death metal combined with the demonic/satanic/anti-religious lyrical themes found in black metal.

Ok. I don't know what those are either. There are too many sub genres of rock these days to keep track of.

I played in a metal band in the 90s, but heavy metal was just heavy metal then.

And you kids get off my lawn!

What are your current thoughts on P vs J in 2016?

P vs J? I don't think it's an either-or choice. Both designs compliment each other in the hands of a good player. I'm mainly a P player but prefer to own both types.

In 2016? It seems to me that there are more top quality basses being made now, at all price points, than at any other time in bass history.

The 60's and 70's were great times for being in a band but I'm just loving the noise I'm making these days.

I love both. Love the old school plucky P sound on fusion/jazz records. Love the J's ability to sing on notes high on the neck.

Lately been leaning more towards P just because it fits on everything and is so satisfying to play, but I love J's a lot too.

My go to is an American Standard P, plus I have a MIM 50's P.
Lately I have been looking at an 2010 American Special jazz body with the pickups and everything else intact. If I get it I will be looking for a nice fat Precision neck to put on that body. Hey, I have always been kind of an oddball, what can I say?
Does anyone know about the American Special Jazz basses?

I have a buddy who plays in a rock band with a killer singer who had a few record deals in his day. Very pro band, same FOH guy every gig. Just nice to listen to. First time I saw them he brought an old Pbass. It was an early 60s and worth a lot. It sounded freaking killer. I could hear every note and the band sounded great.

Next gig he brought another bass - a Jazz. Wanted to keep the P off the road and I don't blame him. I am a big time Jazz bass guy and have used them forever. But the tone just was not the same. Not as big, not as easy to hear in the mx. That band just needed a P sound and it was one of those moments where your really heard it.
