P90X

i'm doing it, at the moment Im starting phase II and believe me it works. I lost 12 pound the first month, I feel much better and my clothes are baggy I have gone from 40" to 36" in one month.
Plyometrics is hard but I love it, chest-shoulders & triceps is hell but I'll stick to it and beat the challenge.

To be honest I've never been known for loving gyms but this time I'm focus and will finish the program. I can't wait to see the results.

I did it last winter and lost about 20lbs overall, and had noticable mucle gain. It was absolutly brutal. I had let myself go after starting my business, so I added an extra week at the beginning of the program and did half workouts to prepare myself for the real thing. That seemed to work well for me. I didn't adhere to the diet plan very well though. I'm planning on going again next month.

I agree with the consensus that plyometrics is the WORST, but in a good way.

I'm going to have to take back what I said earlier in the thread, too long sitting in an office, I need a quick weight loss fix for next season, so I'm going to have a bash at this.

Wonder how it'll compare to the fact I managed to loose 7lbs in a single week (a couple weeks back) :p

Never really used pushup bars. Have you tried doing pushups on fists?

Dude I'm in the same situation and to be honest this is the best that has happened to me in the last years, I feel much better about myself I was tired of being the fat guy in the band.

If you are going to do it make sure you follow the diet, I follow the portions option. It is more flexible and make sure you drink plenty of water that helps a lot.

just commit and don't give up brother you'll see the results. Another advice if you can't do pull ups you always can buy the resistance band (tubes) they show you how achieve the same results as with the pull ups.

I dare say I'm lucky in that being fairly well built (years of weight training) I should be able to loose the weight quickly, and this is going to help with both that and my stamina, so, fingers crossed it works out.

I can see me doing the first two weeks starting next week, then stopping it and starting again come september (I'm travelling to a conference for a week or so at the end of this month, so excersise will be out the window then sadly).

If you can't do pull ups, do negative pull ups. Put a chair under your bar, and use your legs to help you get to the top, then under your whole body weight let yourself down as slowly as possible. This way you are working your lats for the entire negative portion of the pull up (which is just as important).

As for push ups, never do push ups on your palms, it will over extend your wrist and cause damage. Do them on your fists, or get get something that you can grab onto for them.

Last in line here....
I'll finish the 90 day program this Saturday. Although I started the program primarily to build strength, I've lost at least 15 lbs. I can run 4 miles without breaking a sweat, but my upper body strength has always been low. When I started I could only do a couple of push ups, and those on my knees, with my shoulders on fire. Now I can pump out 35 without an issue, shoulders no longer hurt. My abs have more definition than they've had in decades, and I can now threaten my kids and their friends (get off my lawn!) without them snickering behind my back. I will continue the program after I've finished, as its now become somewhat of a habit. Highly recommended, Thanks P90X!
>Now back to your regularly scheduled program<:p

my wife and i went through it after i herniated a disc badly in my lower back and had to take a break from lifting free weights--it was VERY effective for both of us, but i'll say that the nutritional program is the best part of it--you can burn calories and build muscle in numerous ways, but eating correctly for your goals is where it's at if you are serious

Ok finishing the program this Sunday and have to say the results are amazing, up to date I have lost 30lbs, 4 inches of my stomach and waist and went from 40 inches jeans to 34 inches. T-Shirts that I once bought and never used because they were too tight, now I can wear them and they seem baggy.
I look more athletic and my overall shape is great. I didn't gain lots of muscle because I made a mistake when buying my resistance bands but I'm planning to do another cycle and will buy a better set.

P90X has been a blessing but now I have problems as I used my belly to hold the bass in position but now I have to find a new way to hold my bass.

Oh well at least I'm not the fat bass player in my band and the ladies are more interested in me and "My oversized guitar".

Feels good to know you still can pull even though I'm happily married.

Congrats man, don't worry about gaining muscle size/mass, that takes years and years to build. IIRC the average person can put on about 5lbs of muscle in a year, that is with weight lifting 5 days a week and eating correctly. It will come with time.

I dunno. I kinda like the "before" body on this mom of 4.

High Level marathoners and triathletes are freaky weird. There are a couple of them at the gym that I go to and all they talk about is how they need to lose weight/get faster.

They often take a positive thing like exercise and make it almost a negative thing. Unrealistic goals, over-exertion, rigid diet, etc. It really begins to control their psyche.

But really you could say the same about the gym rats in the weight room and getting bigger. Bench 500 lbs and have arms so massive he cant scratch his own back -- got to be bigger/stronger/more cut.
