Painting a headstock

Your biggest challenge will be color matching. Before you commit get a board close to the same shade as your HS and do a test run.
Paint ordered.... let’s see how this goes! Also put on a chrome control plate
To be honest, I was digging the one piece pickguard more. But it's your bass 
Tape off the tuner holes too...makes it easier to get the bushings back in...

Maybe try completing on a small practice piece... primer, paint, then the clear... are you looking to match finish (poly/nitro... not necessarily the color), with the body?
That’s a good idea... I didn’t think far enough about finish..
Does it matter if they are different finishes? The body is poly and the paint I got is nitro I believe
I'm going to say no... it's all about personal preference... I have an MV4 with a poly finish on the body, and I'm pretty sure a nitro on the neck... Love it!
If you bought nitro color I wouldn't use that clear. You should get nitro clear as well.
Good point... I did the nitro thing the whole way through, for a kit build... primer, paint, and top.
Yea any video or tutorial you read will say to use the same kind of paint the whole way through. That acrylic may react badly with the nitro and cause you to start over. I'm even scared of mixing nitro brands. Like using reranch color with stewmac clear. It would probably be fine but I don't want to risk an already difficult process.

That's nitro. Reranch doesn't sell anything other than nitro that I'm aware of. Get a can or two of their clear coat as well. If this is your first time refinishing get more than you think you'll need. I'm still learning and I always have to go back and reorder more cuz I messed something up. Might want to get one of their sanding packs as well, if you don't have any fine grit sandpaper.
