Double Bass Palatino Problems

Reading through the forums, the ve-500 seems to be popular. I don't seem to find anyone having the same problem I am (which is good) but that means I'm not finding answers!

My volume control started acting up. First, the volume wouldn't go off (turned the knob to its physical stop, the bass still played). Then it started working fine. So I started playing around on it, slapped it one time, now there is almost no volume. It's got a brand new battery, amp still works, and the cable is good.

Any ideas?

Potentiometer may be dirty, or a wire soldering is cold or wire is near breakage.
To try to clean the pot: turn it up and low rapidly several times in a row.
If it's a wiring problem, open the bass cavity and inspect carefully.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had already tried to clean the pot. Guess it's time to open it up!
