Yesterday, I took a few hours to run to the DMV outpost at the mall, (I will post separately about this later) and after fruitlessly concluding that endeavor, I noticed a swell pair of sneakers in a window on my way out. I stopped to try them on, and realized as I was donning them that the center seam of my work jeans had become frayed. Frayed to the point of bursting. As in, there was a sudden breeze coming through. Fortunately, I was able to get out without incident (the sneakers turned out to be sold out in my size in every store in America) and made it through the rest of the work day and patched up the rip.
This also happened to me a few years ago when I squatted down to pick up my baby boy on a PLAYGROUND in a park and that entire region of the pants just blew out. Like... a foot long rip. That was a lucky day, because everyone else had left, so we were alone. In that case, I was dropping balls like Dick Clark's Rocking New Year and nobody would have found that as hilarious as I do.
My PSA for today is to recommend that all members of TB check the seams of their "road worn" jeans and work clothes like a paratrooper going over his harness. You never know when you could head off a major accident.
