passive five strings under $500 dollars?

I've heard good things about OLP's. You can get new 5er's for less than $400. I think they're passive.

Also, I'm not sure how it would sound in urban gospel (I don't think I've ever heard any urban gospel). Here is a thread that was started today (I think) of a guy playing one.

I don't see why you couldn't use a BB415. If you want the "modern" tone, you could look for a Peavey Foundation V, they have soapbars, and sound close to a Cirrus. You could get a Yamaha BB405 or BBN5, both have a midrange heavy, modern sort of tone. I have a BB405, but I am in the process of getting DiMarzio Ultra Jazz hum cancelling pickups, to get more of a Jazz bass vibe. This is my BB405:
