Passive p/j basses under $750 new or used?

I've been wanting to add a p/j back into my arsensal. I've been without one since I sold my fender cowpoke 20 or so years ago. What are some good passive (or switchable to passive) p/j basses that can be had for under $750? I like the idea of a G&L tribute sb-2, but I may want to tinker with different p/j pickups down the road and want something with traditional p/j routing in the body. Thanks dudes.

No connection to me at all but there is an American Hotrod P bass for sale in our classifieds, I think it's 1000.00. I own one and it is by far the nicest playing and sounding P bass I've ever owned. They listed for something like 2299.00 when new and play and sound like it, it's a P/J bass. If you can put together a few hundred dollars more I would highly recommend this bass. Fit and finish on these is superb and the neck is the nicest P bass neck I've ever tried. Like I said no connection to the seller but I almost would like to snag it just because it's head and shoulders above other P basses I've owned or tried. I also own a new Tony Franklin fretless bass which by itself is a very nice playing and sounding P/J bass but the Hotrod is absolutely the best I've tried.

Yes, yes, the G&L Tribute series is a good set of basses. They use the US pickups and saddle lock bridge, with 6 bolt neck design very stable. Also, check out the Yamaha BB424x, it has a chunky 5 piece neck deep neck pocket and string through very stable, and a great set of P/J pickups very hot output passive. These are the types of guitars where no modifications are needed.

Another vote for the Yamaha BB424X. Ibanez SR650 is also a PJ configuration with Nordstrand import pickups; this one can be switched from passive to active and when run in passive there is no need for a battery for it to function.

Guitar Center has done a couple of runs of passive, Jazz-necked Fender P/Js. I think the last one was surf green. IIRC, they were around $700.00 new, if you caught a sale or coupon.

A used ESP Vintage Four would also be a great choice.
