No need for the music history lesson - I know how it happened. But yeah, no matter what I am doing or listening to, mention of Paul and the Clash trigger a Pavlovian response, and I just have to drop what I'm doing and pop on London Calling.
Paul couldn't play when he joined the band - he only played bass so Mick didn't have to. The music on their first album as raw at best. But so what - that's what punk is all about. And by the end they turned into the most musically talented band punk has ever seen. IMHO, of course.
