PB pickup upgrade

I'm quite new to the bass, so here goes my question, any additional info welcome :

I have an Indonesian Cort 690, it's basically a copy of a Precision Bass with something called a "Powersound" split single coil (I'm guessing Cort's cheapest pickup). Now I like the bass enough, it's pretty old and comfortable, the action's nice, but I was wondering how much of an upgrade I'd get if I replaced the pickups, I was thinking either some original Fenders, or maybe Seymour Duncan SPB-2 or EMGs ?
will a pickup upgrade be noticeable on even a cheap bass?
Thanks

I quite like the DiMarzio Model P too, bit darker sounding than the SD Quarter Pounder (which is also a great pup).

Even though it is a cheap bass, changing the pickups should have a big impact on the sound. Newer strings could help a lot too (just with you saying it's old, Ive known many who only change strings when they break!)
