pbass experiment question

Need to shield cavity on cheap Peavey bass I just bought. Plan on removing volume pot and running volume straight to jack for a full on effect all the time. "Where its at anyways" just had the idea to see about running tone pots to each side of the p pups.....one to darken the G and D strings a bit without affecting the A or E strings....and one to brighten the E and A without effecting the other two in the same fashion.....wondering if anyone has tried this or not.....wiring alone might be tricky.
 
it will work, it is just like having two single coils instead of a split coil... but be careful with your wiring, you can end up with a terribly noisy bass. not with the intent of being annoying or rude, i'm just curious: why would you want to do that? and, what is the practical use of it?

Why would it make the bass noisy? I see no reason to believe that, unless there were volume pots on each coil.

But didn't think of the single coil noise that could be created...that alone is enough to scrap the idea.
that is exactly what i meant. because, yeah you have the "reverse wound" halves, but if you switch the positive to negative on one of them and vice-versa, it will do bad things for your "quietness." also, since you ARE treating each half as an independent coil, if the windings aren't well balanced you can, once again, end up with a noisy bass.
but that is just my opinion. heck, i haven't ever tried it. so, if you decide you want to do it, let us know how it went.

The OP didn't mention anything about reverse phase wiring. I'm not sure where that came from.
The OP simply wants direct-to-jack wiring, plus a tone control on each coil. There are three ways that noise can come in, but none should be significant.

1. The lack of a resistance from a volume pot will brighter things a bit, preventing the usual attenuation of high frequency noise.
2. Having things connected to the series link brings about the potential for hum problems if the wiring is not done correctly.
3. If the OP is able to get a practical level of independence from the tone controls, then if the tone controls are not at identical settings, high frequency content will not humcancel. (60Hz hum is low frequency, unaffected by tone controls.)
 
One last question......I am left handed. When I installed the emgs in the schecter I had to use emgs right handed tone controls. I have gotten use to turning knobs in reverse of the way you guys do it so that doesn't bother me. Emgs setup was plug and play though so no soldering. If I put normal right handed pots in here and wire for right handed I should get the same backwards effect right?.......speaking about the directionality of knob movement of course.....kinda tired of looking at/for left handed pots and wiring diagrams. If its just a case if turning knobs one way or the other I don't care.
