Pbass pickup wiring ideas

I'm installing Schaller pickups in a pBass clone.

Each individual pickup has a positive a negative wire.

Typically pBass pickups are wired in series.

What advantage might there be to wiring the pickups in parallel?

Would there be any real advantage to wiring each pickup to separate Volume and tone controls?

Also any recommendations for tone caps?

Just looking for some thought before I get out the solder iron.

If I had a P bass I would install a series parallel/switch and wire the volume pot straight to the jack and plug into a tube preamp. or install a tone pot bypass switch. A good P bass pickup sounds so great it doesn't need much in the signal path. especially if you want that growly sound. I thought wiring straight to the jack was bananas until I tried it myself

I have a series/parallel switch on my P-bass. It's great for fattening or thinning the sound for different songs/parts.

Wiring the coils of a P bass in parallel generally yields a very weak, low output sound, though some people have found uses for it in certain playing situations.

Remember that the two coils of a P pickup are in series to "add up" to a full output. Putting them in parallel is basically the equivalent of using extremely underwound pickups.

There are some pickups, namely the DiMarzio Split-P, that are designed to sound good in parallel mode.
The DiMarzio is essentially a quad coil pickup, so it has a better output in parallel mode.
