Peavey Alpha Bass

I found an Alpha Bass for $200 that I am going to look at next week. It looks pretty clean and the guy says it works. Would this be a good purchase? Any pros or cons? I have a Seymour Duncan Bass 400, very clean and loud.

That's a smoking deal! I love mine but it's just barely enough power to play with a loud rock drummer if you have enough efficient speakers (4x12 for me). It can do a great classic clean Fender Showman kind of sound and the graphic eq is versatile. There are no extinct components that I'm aware of so any qualified tech should be able to keep it running for a long time.

Why? I've tried but never liked any Peavey I've played (through), even the Peavey-made Trace Elliot.

I had one for about 15 years. It was alright but was pretty heavy. For $200, that seems like a good price. I've seen them going in the $500 range. Since I've had one before, I would probably pass unless I was going to flip it.

Can't comment on the Peavey, but the SD 400 is indeed very clean. Have you tried it at 2 ohms?
