Peavey Firebass 700

Hey everyone. I went to my local store today and I saw a White Peavey Firebass head for 225. How does this head sound? I need to buy my first gigging rig for bass. Would it be better with a Sansamp BDDI?

Did you get a chance to try it out? I like the sound of mine with an old GB 2x15 and no sansamp.

Nice Head but very heavy.

I just played through one of these at a jam sessions, and I wasn't impressed. To me it sounds like the rig puts a blanket over your strings. Of course, I feel that way about most Peavey gear so I am not a good one to ask. It also does weigh a ton. However, as a first rig, it is way better than my first rig, and cheaper, and is built like a tank.
Not a bad purchase.

It's a good reliable head, has plenty of power, is 2 ohm stable, all in all, a good basic head for a good price, the only thing I'll say is the contour knob sounds good, when it is turned all the way to the right .... It's the cabinet that really defines your sound ... IMHO

If you need a head right away to gig ,its a decent head,pretty sterile sounding and very heavy but dependable and you can dial up some workable bass tone. If you can wait I would save a little more and look for something else. carvin,G.K. or Markbass are affordable great sounding heads maybe even some of the newer peavey stuff. I keep my firebass as a backup and use it at church but got tired of lugging that heavy peavey setup around!
