for your an inexpensive entry into extended range
I would hurry and snatch one up cuz they probably
won't last long.

apparently I'm not the only one with the MF shipping blues?

Anyway, after a week of waiting, I finally got mine last night. Like was said before, it looks exactly like the pics online, but mine has an added bonus of what looks like a mark from a black Sharpie on the side of the neck at the 5th fret, and an even bigger bonus in that you can't read the Peavey logo on the headstock from any sort of distance. =)

Overall, it plays fairly well (still needs truss rod adjustment), sounds killer (I've just converted back to the sound of passive electronics), and looks....well....like the pictures show...like a Butcher Block. I dig it, especially for the price. =)

I just ordered one on musiciansfriend.com after I chatted with some help guy on their site. The Butcher number is the same as the other grind bass, except it has a V. This means it's a refurbished model. an X means it's a blemished model. He said the refurbs are less of a gamble than the blem ones. That's the whole difference. No different wood no anything.

for 200 bucks? i played this at the store and it sounds fantastic. I could actually tell if someone else was playing it while i was in the store, i loved the sound! I hope it wasn't just the amp that made it sound sweet :), but from comments here seems I got a bargain by getting one.

Got it today. I was out of town all day so all I've been able to do so far is get some pics for you guys. I like the flat body front on this bass. The undercut always looked funny to me, though probably just because it's not "the usual" shape. No battery covers, string through or topload with these bridge pieces. Nice headstock decal. The only thing I could possibly pick at would be the milky clear plastic fret markers on the edge of the fretboard. They relly do look cheap, but I like the design. If one should ever fall out I'll replace them all with pearl markers and it will all be top notch. The action and neck relief are right on the money from the box, will find out about the intonation after I get it home. Seems surprisingly comfortable for a 6'er (never owned one, played one for about 5 minutes total in my life). the grain match is pretty bad looking in some places, but the glue seams seem to be nice and tight, and the (oil?) finish is uniform and well done.

Typical body pix in Bill's chair. The shape of the chair and the leather are perfect for holding a bass for pix :D. If I keep going at the rate I've been, Bill will be sitting in an "internet famous" chair. Maybe he'll be able to Ebay it for big bux one day. Naahhh...

So did I get my $249.99 worth? That's just crazy! I don't understand how they can still have some in stock at that price.

I stopped by GC this week and played a 4 string and 5 string. Bang for the buck, I was hugely suprised. Even at their prices (about $350) it was a good deal. The Musicians Friend price is just out of this world. It is interesting that they are the same company though.

Anyway, back to the sound, like most neck through basses. It had a nice smooth tone but still had nice low end. It seemed to be very quiet (as in no unwanted noise) but you can never tell in Guitar Center. Anyway, it had some good low end and nice highs. The neck was very thin and playable. Overall, a very nice bass for the money.

If you're into alternate tunings, just be careful with your Grinds. This is the "E" machine head off mine. Looks identical to a Schaller M4, but they're $35 at allparts.com and this one costs $10.00 from Peavey.

Well, I guess they have to cut costs somewhere.

LOL... I played a 4 string version of this bass at a local music store, it was used. The bass was very light and easy to play but the neck was very thin and was a lot different to me than my jazz bass. It was somewhat fast but it was a little too thin and narrow for my tastes, I would hate to see how the 5 and 6 string necks where, geez! :hmm:
