Peavey Mark III 260c - your thoughts

I'm looking to pick up a combo and a guy I know has one of these in what he says is "almost new" condition.

I haven't seen it yet, but looked it up on the internet. He wants $175.00. That's in the ballpark for what is selling on ebay right now.

From what I could find out, It's 1 18" with 400 watts, can I plug my swr 2X10 into it?

I'm not going to bother with something that can't hold its own against some drums.

What are your impressions of this old amp?

I owned a "Centurion" head, which used the 260c power amp. It was 130 W into 4 Ohms, or 65 W into 8 Ohms. So I wonder about that 400-W rating.

I used to use a Mark III head with a TNT 15 cab - it was a good sounding rig and loud enough for most things too. For 175 I would grab it. I think the output wattage is probably 150 watts - 400 watts is the draw from the wall.

That 400W seemed high to me too. I figured that it had to be some kind of marketing spin.
150W would do the job.

I think I'm going to go ahead and get it, the price is right.

I have one of those, but am having trouble finding out anything about it, even how old it is. I cant locate it on the Peavey site unless im inputting the incorrect data. C an anyone help ?. On the rear it has 'made in the USA' '260 C' with 'Mark III bass combo' on the front. It is 240 volts @ 3 amps, so it's obviously a proper UK imported model.

email peavey and send them a picture of it. Thats what I hadto do when I had questions about mine when I first bought it. To me the amp had a great tone, and would last forever like most peavey gear.
