Peavey Millenium Active BXP eats batteries. solution?

I have had a peavey millenium AC BXP 4 string active bass for a while. Love the sound. Takes 2 9v batteries and eats them like a whale. Has anybody found any solution to it?
BTW i have looked into it a bit and dont think its the active electronics which suck the batteries but the actual pickups themselves are battery suckers. Is that true?

I have a Peavey AC Millenium BXP. I had the same batteries in it for the past several weeks. I don't play it every day (I know: my bad! :hiding:). I never leave the instrument cable plugged in when I'm not playing.

I also recall reading that a wire position in some models needed to swapped. I htought it had to do with the instrument jack?
