Peavey Minx 110 Problem

So, just joined because I've heard you guys are great help.

I have a Peavey Minx 110, the older version. This weekend while I was away, my uncle hooked up a pedal board and his guitar to it. When I tried to play my bass on it a few minutes ago, it worked fine for a minute or two. Then, there was a pop and the volume went down to where it was almost inaudible and there was a lot of static.

I've tried it three more times, and still get the same result. Turning the volume up doesn't help, I thought it might be a short in the wire so I switched it for a better one. I'd try my other bass, but it was a cheap one and one of the wires for the output jack came loose and I haven't gotten that fixed yet.

Does this sound like a problem with the amp itself, or my bass? It's a Schecter Stiletto Extreme-4. I've only had it for a few months, so I wouldn't expect anything to go wrong with it.

Nope, it just happened today so I haven't done much.

Probably a dead battery. When you replace it, just for grins, put a multimeter on it and you'll find it's still putting out about 7.5 volts, enough to start a fire and burn down your house if you just toss it in a bin and it shorts across anything conductive. Always wrap the terminals with tape before recycling 9V batteries.

Since you seem new to Active basses, always unplug the instrument cable when not in use (whenever a cable is plugged in the battery is draining).
How long a battery will last depends on how long you play and how long the cable is in the jack of the bass. Some active preamps draw more from the battery, by the same token some draw less. You will get a sense of how long a battery will last after replacing a few so keep a fresh one on hand.

A wire (pair) is something that internally connects a speaker to an amp in most cases.
An instrument cable plugs your instrument into the amplifier.
These terms are important because hooking the wrong wire could be dangerous!

Try to use good quality cables, find out by going to your local mom and pop music store and a knowledgeable sales rep will school you.
